Jiangsu Ocean University is a full-time ordinary undergraduate university in Jiangsu Province. In 2013, the university was approved as a Master's degree awarding unit, and in 2017, it was approved as the project-approval unit of Doctor's degree. In 2024, the university was approved as one of the first batch of construction units for first-class application-oriented undergraduate universities in Jiangsu Province.
The university is located in Lianyungang City, the core and pilot area of the intersection of the “Belt and Road” construction, the eastern bridgehead of the Eurasian Land Bridge, and one of the first batch of coastal open cities in China. The university currently has four campuses: Cangwu, Tongguan, Songtiao and Xugou. The main campus (Cangwu Campus) is located at the western foot of Huaguo Mountain, a national 5A scenic spot and the cultural birthplace of “Journey to the West”. It covers a total area of 146 hectares with a school building area of 657,100 square meters. It has 1,816 faculty members, including 20,443 full-time undergraduates, 2,426 postgraduate students, 164 international students and 94 preparatory students. The university consists of 20 colleges, and its undergraduate programs cover 10 disciplinary categories such as Engineering, Science, Management, Literature, Agriculture, Law, Economics, Art, Education and Medicine.
The university has 1,496 full-time teachers, among whom 583 hold senior professional titles and 784 have doctoral degrees. There are 5 national-level high-level talents and 3 Jiangsu Provincial Excellent Teaching Masters; 1 Jiangsu Provincial Innovation and Entrepreneurship Talent, 2 Jiangsu Distinguished Professors, 2 Young and Middle-aged Experts with Outstanding Contributions in Jiangsu Province, 1 Young and Middle-aged Expert with Outstanding Contributions in Shandong Province, and 3 winners of the Jiangsu Provincial Outstanding Youth Fund. A total of 301 person-times have been selected into provincial and ministerial talent programs, including Jiangsu Provincial Innovation and Entrepreneurship Doctorates, the “333 High-Level” Training Program, the Qinglan Project for Jiangsu Universities, and the Jiangsu Provincial Six Talent Peaks Program.The university has 6 Excellent Teaching Teams of the Qinglan Project for Jiangsu Universities and 6 Jiangsu Provincial Scientific and Technological Innovation Teams. One teacher was awarded the Advanced Individual in National Textbook Construction (the First Session). Seven teachers were selected in the latest 2024 Top 2% Scientists Worldwide list.
The university now has 1 post-doctoral research workstation, 10 master's degree programs in first-level disciplines and 20 professional master's degree programs, covering 8 disciplinary categories such as Economics, Literature, Science, Engineering, Agriculture, Medicine, Management, and Art. There is 1 provincially advantageous discipline, 4 disciplines included in the provincial key discipline construction plan, and 4 disciplines entering the top 1% of ESI global rankings. The university has 3 national-level characteristic specialties, 28 specialties selected into the Ministry of Education's First-class Specialty Construction Plan, and 6 specialties selected into the construction sites of industry-education integration brand specialties in Jiangsu Province.
The university, by insisting on opening up and international cooperation, has established friendly cooperative relations and signed educational and scientific research cooperation agreements with more than 70 overseas universities such as the United States, Japan, Germany, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and South Korea. The university cooperates with the Admiral Makarov National University of Shipbuilding of Ukraine and has jointly built the Makarov College of Marine Engineering, Jiangsu Ocean University, a Sino-foreign cooperative institution, offering undergraduate and master's degree education. Every year, the university selects outstanding young and middle-aged teachers to go abroad for exchange and further study, and introduces overseas high-level talents and foreign experts to teach and deliver lectures on campus. The university encourages and supports its students to "go global" and broaden their international horizons, introduces professional courses from overseas universities. The various overseas exchange and learning programs are operating well. It actively develops international education for foreign students, builds a Sino-foreign exchange platform, and steadily increases the scale of international students on campus.
