江苏海洋大学位于丝绸之路经济带和21世纪海上丝绸之路交汇点、亚欧大陆桥东桥头堡、全国首批沿海开放城市江苏省连云港市。目前占地144公顷，校舍面积56万多平方米。现有教职工1580人，全日制本科生、研究生20000余名。学校下设海洋生命与水产学院、海洋资源与环境学院、机械与海洋工程学院、土木与港海工程学院、测绘与海洋信息学院、电子工程学院、化学工程学院、计算机工程学院、文学院、理学院、法律与公共管理学院、商学院、外国语学院、艺术学院、药学院、体育学院、马克思主义学院、应用技术学院、继续教育学院等19个二级学院，开设63个本科专业，专业门类覆盖工学、理学、管理学、文学、农学、法学、经济学、艺术学、教育学和医学等十个学科门类。
学校坚持以人才培养为中心，努力为地方经济社会发展培养应用型复合性人才。同时，学校高度重视学科建设和科研工作。“海洋科学”为江苏省优势学科，机械工程、生物工程等8个学科为江苏省重点学科。学校拥有江苏省海洋生物资源与环境重点实验室、江苏省海洋生物技术重点实验室、江苏省海洋药物活性分子筛选重点实验室、江苏省先进材料功能调控技术重点实验室、江苏省海洋资源开发研究院等一批海洋特色鲜明、学科力量雄厚的科技研发和服务平台。
Jiangsu Ocean University (JOU) is located in Lianyungang, Jiangsu, which is not only one of China’s first coastal open cities, but also the joint of Silk Road economic belt and 21st century Maritime Silk Road, and the Eastern Bridgehead of the Euro-Asia Continental Bridge. It has an area of 144 hectares, 560,000m2 of which is covered by school buildings. There are 1,580 staff and about 20,000 full-time undergraduate and post-graduate students. JOU has 19 secondary schools, which are School of Marine Life and Fisheries, School of Marine Resources and Environment, School of Mechanical and Marine Engineering, School of Civil and Harbor Engineering, School of Geomatics and Marine Information, School of Electronic Engineering, School of Chemical, School of Computer Engineering, School of Liberal Arts, School of Science, School of Law and Public Administration, School of Business, School of Foreign Languages, School of Arts, School of Pharmacy, School of Physical Education, School of Marxism, School of Applied Technology and School of Continuing Education. 63 undergraduate majors are offered which focus on the fields of engineering, science, liberal arts, management, agriculture, law, economy, arts, education and medicine.
The university is engaged in developing practical and versatile talents for local economic and social development. We work hard to optimize and refine both disciplinary structure and direction. At the same time, JOU focus on the discipline construction and the scientific research. “Marine science” is the preponderant discipline in Jiangsu province. Mechanical Engineering, Biological Engineering and other 8 disciplines are the key disciplines at the provincial level. JOU has also launched a number of key laboratories and institutes which are high-end academic development and service platforms with distinctive marine characteristics and particular discipline strengths, such as Jiangsu Key Laboratory of Marine Biological Resources and Environment, Jiangsu Key Laboratory of Marine Biotechnology, Jiangsu Key Laboratory of Marine Pharmaceutical Compound Screening, Jiangsu Key Laboratory of Advanced Material Functional Control Technology, Marine Resources Development Institute of Jiangsu.
